The Project/ Exhibition “skud på stammen 2007” was held in collaboration with the Danish Museum of Art & Design and aimed to bring young designers and crafsmen together. It allowed them the opportunity to show their take on how the danish tradion of craftmanship in wood could be continued. The desk was part of this project and was exhibited there until now being offered in this sale. Christian Alstrup described his work with table like this: The intention of the table “Emiliano” is to make a sculpture that is being noticed. It must no be to harmonic, because the eye is supposed to stop and wonder whether everything is the way it is supposed to be. Thus the object has to be accepted for what it is, but meanwhile make demands on the viewer. Because of the object's innate conflict - the elegant versus the heavy - it gets a personality or a certain edge. The choice of material break with the tradition that fine craftmanship has to be done in wood. Craftmanship a composition of materials represent an unaccustomed and conspicuous contrast. Thus you have a table that can stand alone and in itself fill in an empty room but also can be discreet and can be part of many different correlations of arrangement. The challenge is not to create something that in itself is conspicuous whereas to create a new object, that is pointing out itself, but concurrent sucessfully can match the contempoary style of furniture arrangement. www.skudpaastammen.dk
