Hermann Ernst Freund (b. Uthlede near Bremen 1786, d. Copenhagen 1840)
A Danish mahogany armchair in Pompeian style, curved padded back, armrests carved with lying sphinx, cane seat, round profiled front legs and curved back legs, sabots and castor of brass. 1830–1836.
Literature: Mirjam Gelfer-Jørgensen, Herculanum paa Sjælland, p. 379, pl. 20. An exact model of this chair is also represented at Design Museum Denmark, Copenhagen.
