Russian Church icon, rare variant of The Entombment of Christ. Our Lady is depicted praying over the body of Jesus Christ lying in the coffin. In the upper right part the pillar, where Christ was suffering; on the pillar the cock, which reminds of the prophecy of Christ to the Holy Apostle Peter: “Before the cock crows twice you will deny me three times.” The other tools of the Passions are displayed. Tempera on wood. 17th/18th century. 51×41.5 cm.
