Carl Locher (b. Flensburg 1851, d. Skagen 1915)

King Frederick VII of Denmark is sailed back to Copenhagen in his coffin. Unsigned. Oil on canvas. 40×56 cm.

This painting is a study for the the larger painting “Frederik VIIs ligfærd d. 2. december 1863” from 1889 at Statens Museum for Kunst. When Frederik VII of Denmark died in 1863 at Glücksborg Castle, south of Flensburg, he was afterwards transported to Copenhagen.

Condition

The canvas needs tightening. Minor crackles. In need of a light surface cleaning. A larger peeling.
