The landscape is the second in a series of three paintings with the motif of a red chalked farm from Marie Krøyer's summer stay in 1887 at Børglum Kloster (monastery) in northern Jutland. It was the year before she went to Paris, yet the works in this small series are surprisingly modern and audacious in their framing and colours.
