Elisabeth Lødrup Bang, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of I. C. Dahl no. 584, referred to as “Present whereabouts unknown”.

Presumably exhibited at Charlottenborg 1829 no. 199 (supplement) titled “A ruin in the neighborhood of Castel Mare”, which was an equivalent to no. 198 “Castel Mare, seen from the shore”, both owned by C. F. Zeuthen, Groom in Waiting (kammerjunker).

A drawing for the painting is reproduced in Elisabeth Lødrup Bang, Vol III, plate 243 no. 584. Here two small drawings on paper with motifs of a man and a woman in conversation and a man with donkeys have been attached to the drawing. The drawing is dated 1820.

Provenance: Tølløse manor house, the Schulin-Zeuthen family until today.
