The healthy children with red apple cheeks are placed at home, comfortably, among their toys. They represent a contrast to the exhibition's sick children.

Literature: Tor Hedberg, “Oscar Björck”, 1930, mentioned and reproduced. The author writes about the painting: “ Samma år målade han ”I barnkammaren“ en förtjusande genrebild med lekande barn, i vilken barnalynnet tolkas lika älskvärt och med kännande som i de tidigare småskolebilderna från Skagen och där han fångat barnets nyckfulla och graciösa ställninger och rörelsemotiv med en snabb säkerhet som tävler med Zorns i eet par af dennes barnbilder från de första Parisåren”.

The same year he painted “In the Nursery”, a charming genre painting with children playing and in which the children's temperament is interpreted just as amiably and empathetically as in his early paintings of primary schools from Skagen, where he caught the children's whimsical and graceful positions and movements with great confidence that can compete with that of Zorn in some of this artist’s paintings of children from his first years in Paris.

Provenance: Ingrid Nylin née Björck, the artist's daughter (1930). Lieutenant Colonel A. Janse. Elfvik, Lidingö, Stockholm. Private collection in London.
