Jesús Curiá's art is about capturing and showing the human being. His works are a mixture of figurative elements, where both body and figure are abstract. This is in an attempt to express tradition, modernity and ethnic culture, which has also been the basis of his approach to art over the years. Curiá raises questions of identity, community and globalization through his sculptures by mixing an almost ancient quality with his own modern ideas and feelings. The ambiguity in the expression of Curiá's sculptures is fundamental to the artist's visual language. The facial features in his works are neither Western nor non-Western, male or female. Curiá's sculptures are archetypes that remove boundaries and qualities that separate and distinguish us. As a result, the sculptures are a tribute to man himself, and the principles that unite us. Their powerful forms and gestures evoke a wide range of emotions, including joy, serenity and, at times, loneliness. Curiá's choice of materials is important to our understanding of his work. Despite working primarily in bronze, his thoughtful integration of wood, stone, concrete and resin is directly related to the idea he wishes to express through each sculpture. Curiá's mix of soft and hard, warm and cold materials, representing human complexity, is also synonymous with the opposing qualities found in all of us.
