Eric Allatini: Sur Tallons Rouges. Paris: G. Briffaut [1929]. Illustrated with handcoloured illustrations by Gerda Wegener. Inscribed on fly leaf by Wegener. With an additional leaf with original watercolours by Gerda Wegener on both sides. Bound with orig. wrappers in full morocco, in slipcase.
This work includes two original watercolours by the Danish illustrator Gerda Wegener (1885–1940). Wegener lived most of her adult life in Paris with her husband the artist, Einar Wegener/Lili Elbe, who often posed as model for her erotic motives. In Denmark she was never recognized or respected for her artistic qualities, but in Paris she was a celebrated and pricewinning artist with a decorative and slightly decadent style. She even represented France in the world exhibition in Paris in 1925. She was a respected portrait painter, interior decorator and illustrator for fashion magazines, papers as well as books, including the Icelandic sagas and literary classics as “Casanova” and “Decameron”.
