A portrait of schoolmaster and candidatus of engineering August Weis, 1853–1920 with a black jacket and a lilac in the bottonhole. Signed and dated C. H. 1868. Oil on canvas. 47×40 cm.

Emil Hannover's register of Constantin Hansen's paintings no. 532. Provenance: The portrayed's descendants. In his diary from the 22nd of June 1868 Constantin Hansen writes “Painted a portrait of Aug. Weis”. August Weis was a teacher at the Metropolitan School in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Condition

In need of a light surface cleaning. Minor crackles. The canvas needs tightening.
