Exhibited: Thorvaldsen's Museum, “Johan Thomas Lundbye 1818–1848 ... at male det kjære Danmark”, 1994 no. 43, reproduced p. 66 and mentioned p. 67 with a passage from the diary of Lundbye May the 15th 1844 (Madsen, 1949, p 182): It has amused me to paint the timber exactly the way I saw it ... The beams in the barn bear marks after bolts, so they were also ship timber. Thus, I have painted them like that. May be it was just a whim or may be it amused me to think that these beams once plowed the sea, and perhaps have been far around in the world before they were laid to rest in a Zealand farm house.

Provenance: Baron Stampe, Nysø (1895). The collection of Johan Hansen, Consul General, his auctions, part IX, Winkel & Magnussen 139, 1933 no. 113, reproduced p. 17. Danish private collection.
