Paul Gauguin (b. Paris 1848, d. Fatu-Iwa 1903)

“Cerises et Carafon” (Cherries and Carafe). Painted 1874–1878, presumably 1875–77, the presence of cherries would indicate a summer date. Label on the stretcher with the text: “Malet af Paul Gauguin hvilket bevidnes - Pola Gauguin, p.t. Fairy Hill, Kvistgaard” (Painted by Paul Gauguin - as witnessed by Pola Gauguin, p.t. Fairy Hill, Kvistgaard). Oil on canvas. 33×54 cm.
