Chinese gilt bronze figure of Buddha Sakyamuni seated in dhyanasana, with his right hand holding a myrobalan fruit, the left in dhyanamudra, loose robe richly incised. Wooden carved lotus throne. Ming 1368–1644. H. 57 cm. The Buddha H. 50 cm. excl. base. Weight c. 26.7 kg.

Provenance: Lise Hüttemeier, daughter of C.K. Hansen former CEO of the East Asiatic Company, who acquired the buddha from H.V. Jacobsen, also a former director of the East Asiatic Company, who was a well-known major collector of Chinese art during his stay in China in the early 20th century.
