19 May 1834 Rørbye leaves Copenhagen for his first long journey abroad. He travels to Germany, the Netherlands, Paris, Switzerland and Italy, where he stays for about a year. He is in Sorrento from 4 July to 27 July 1835. After Sorrento he travels to Greece and Turkey and then back to Italy, Germany, etc., and arrives back in Copenhagen 20 November 1837.
