J. J. Bruun

Johan Jacob Bruun: Novus Atlas Daniæ eller Prospecter af alle Hoved- og Kiöbstæderne [...]. 1ste Tome af Siælland [all published]. Cph 1761. Small folio. 50 + 10 engraved plates (later published). Folding prospect of Copenhagen with repairs. One plate with dampstaining to upper part. A few plates with marginal foxing, not affecting motifs. Bound in cont. fine full calf.

The important topographical work “Novus Atlas Daniæ” was published by the Danish painter Johan Jacob Bruun in 1761–64. Unfortunately he could never afford to finish the work. After his death in 1789 the engraver G.L. Lahde (1780–1833) bought the plates and reissued the work in 1799 and 1805. A rare and very elegant set of Bruun's famous views of Denmark.
