A French 18k gold hunter case pocket watch with quarter repetition, guilloché silver dial with Roman numerals, signed Berthoud, gold dust cover signed Berthoud Fréres a Paris, no. 3177. Back case engraved with owner names: Piter Van Scholten Major Général, Claude du Plat Major Général and Heinrich Tobiesen Lieutenant Colonel. C. 1830. Weight 57 gr. Case diam. 43 mm. Together with winding key and 14k gold watch chain, weight 10 gr. (3)

Provenance: Peter von Scholten (1784–1854), Danish Governor-General in The Danish West Indies 1827–1848. Then inherited to Major General and Commander of Dannebrog, Peter Henrik Claude du Plat (1809–1864), married to Elisabeth Catharine von Scholten (1811–1859), daughter of Peter von Scholten. General du Plat fell in the battle of Dybbøl in 1864. Here, his body was looted and the pocket watch disappeared. Fortunately the family rediscovered the watch with a second-hand dealer in Lübeck. Then passed down in the family until today.
