1307/1503

Norwegian Rococo parcel-gilt silver vinaigrette, gilt interior, chased and engraved with rocailles and flowers, cover applied with angel, oval base with balm hide, pricked with owner's initials BCDS. Maker Anders Hansen Smith, Stavanger 1766–1803. Weight 31 gr. H. 7 cm. In fitted case from S.J. Phillips Ltd.

In the case is fixed a small plaque with the name of the Danish silversmith Arved Hansen. Arved Hansen's maker's mark is hardly distinguishable from Anders Hansen Smith's maker's mark, but the box-outline of the maker's mark determines that it is the mark of the Norwegian silversmith.

Condition

Wear due to age and use. Hinge with minor repair and crack on the inside. The cover and balm hide does not close properly.
