The 4 pages long letter is written to Knud Rasmussen's friend and companion, the Danish explorer, author, journalist and anthropologist, Peter Freuchen (1886–1957). In the letter Rasmussen describes a 10 days journey day by day - a journey he makes in Greenland at the end of the year 1912 - the same year that he has completed the first Thule Expedition. An expedition where he and Peter Freuchen crossed the ice cap to Denmark Fjord in North Greenland.
In 1966 the letter was given to the Danish film director Jørgen Roos who made his legendary film about Knud Rasmussen “Knud” in 1965. As an acknowledgement and a thank you Knud Rasmussen's daugther, Inge Thorborg, handed over the letter to Jørgen Roos.
