Niels Bohr

Niels Bohr: Studier over Metallernes Elektrontheori. 1911. Inscribed by Bohr on front wrapper. Inner spine weak. In orig. wrappers. Spine with tears. Back wrapper with large stain.

A rare presentation copy of “Studier over Metallernes Elektrontheori”, which was Niels Bohr's (1885–1962) doctoral thesis and the first published book by the Danish physicist.

Together with Max Planck (the quantum theory in 1900) and Albert Einstein (the theory of relativity in 1905), Niels Bohr (the atomic theory in 1913) marks the final break with classical Newtonian physics. Niels Bohr received the Nobel prize in 1922 and became the center of the international research milieu at the University of Copenhagen.
