Michael Ancher (b. Bornholm 1849, d. Skagen 1927)

Skagen was not only known for fishing, often in a rough sea and for dangerous rescue operations, but also for calm summer days with a very special light. Michael Ancher has in this painting captured this very special light with his brillant brush. The three strong fishermen are smoking their pipes, while they are enjoying a bright summer day.
