Mogens Lassen (b. Copenhagen 1901, d. Holte 1987)

Unique “Egyptian” foldable chair with oak frame and brass fittings. Seat, back and armrests upholstered with original patinated natural leather. Seat angle adjustable with strap. Made circa 1947 by cabinetmaker Christian Jørgensen.

Current owner first saw an Egyptian folding chair by Mogens Lassen in a book about the landscape architect Troels Erstad. Here Mogens Lassen in 1941 had designed a range of furniture for his Garden room. Upon contacting Mogens Lassen, current owner was permitted to buy the design for a similar Egyptian chair, and had cabinetmaker Christian Jørgensen make the chair at the cost of 200 dkk, of which Mogens Lassen received half the amount. However owner did not like the white paint and canvas found on the Troels Erstad chair, and so the chair was modified to be entirely of oak with leather upholstery. Mogens Lassen designed many pieces of furniture by special order, of which several were variations of previous models.
