1436/9069
A Polynesian Tapa-cloth. Bark textile. 114×94 cm.
Provenance: The Second [Danish] Galathea Expedition 1950–1950.
Tapa-cloth (or merely Tapa) is made from bark and was once widely known all over Oceania - however, not least on the islands of Tonga, Samoa and Fiji. Today the tradition has died out in many communities.
