A rare set of six Danish Louis XVI armchairs and a sofa, model by G.E. Rosenberg, the armchairs stamped with crowned monogram JM, for Dowger Queen Juliane Marie. C. 1794–96. The paint work and gilding of a later date, to be sold together with eight armchairs made to match, 20th century. (15)

Provenance: Ruzzo Heinrich Prinz Reuss Graf von Plauen. Prince Ruzzo was the son of Prince Heinrich Enzio Reuss of Plauen (1922–2000) and a Swedish mother, Baroness Louise Peyron (1918–1989). His father was a member of the German princely House of Reuss. His mother's family, Peyron, immigrated to Sweden from France in 1740, was ennobled in Sweden in 1825, conferred baronial status in 1841 and introduced at the Swedish House of Nobility the following year. After his mother he inherited her estate in Glumslöv outside Landskrona, wherefrom this set of furniture comes.

He was educated in Sweden, where he was a schoolfriend of King Carl Gustaf of Sweden, having attended the same boarding school. Prince Ruzzo and the then-Crown Prince of Sweden enjoyed hunting together.

The crowned monogram of Juliane Marie (1729–1796) was only used for a period of two years. As Christiansborg burned down in 1794, the royal family had to move and the Dowager Queen Juliane Marie moved to Moltke's Palace in Bredgade which she bought from Frédéric de Coninck. The stay was short, unfortunately she died in 1796 during a summer stay at Fredensborg castle. Later on her furniture and furnishings was sold at auction directly from the palace.

The armchairs are designed by the famous Danish architect Georg Erdman Rosenberg, 1739–1788. Rosenberg was the leader of 'Det Kongelige Møbelmagasin' (the Royal Furniture Magazine) from 1777–81. Literature: “Møbler” by Tove Clemmensen, p. 131–146, pl. 87a-b, 93. Similar armchairs today in the Royal collection at Fredensborg Castle.

Similar armchairs by G.E. Rosenberg sold at Bruun Rasmussen: -May 2012, pair of armchairs, 50.000 DKK. -March 2012, sofa and three armchairs, 100.000 DKK.
