Henry Tuxen, who made the list of the paintings by Petzholdt is a descendant of the painter. Fritz Petzholdt was the brother of Tuxen's great-grandfather. Tuxen registrated the paintings owned by the family, and G. Collin owned more than 42 paintings, that were sold after his death in 1886.

At a very young age Petzholdt decided to become a landscape painter. He was taught by C. W. Eckersberg. He died young and his paintings are not very often offered for sale.
