Hans J. Wegner (b. Tønder 1914, d. Gentofte 2007)
“PP 201”. Set of eight oak armchairs with wengé inlays in back, seats with woven papercord. Designed 1969. Made by PP Møbler in 1982. (8)
The PP201/PP203 also marks one of the most important milestones in the lifelong close partnership between Hans J. Wegner and PP Møbler. Until 1969 PP Møbler had been more of a free space for Wegner rather than a business partner. Although PP Møbler already produced thousands of frames for the PP19 Teddy Bear Chair, Wegner's relations to PP Møbler was based on the good friendship with the PP family as well as the craftsmen, and at the PP workshop he conceived most of his prototypes and experiments through the 1960s.
Along with designing the PP201/PP203 in 1969 Wegner designed the PP logo and encouraged PP Møbler to initiate it's own line of products as well as it's own sales efforts. The following 25 years Wegner designed the PP Møbler marketing material and placed his best and most cherished new and previous designs at PP Møbler.
