A Peter Green long case clock in later painted oak and pine case. The brass clock face with Arabic and Roman numerals and gilt metal mounts with the four seasons, signed Ptr. Green, Abenrade. 18th century. H. 197. W. 38. D. 23 cm.
Among the best known of the North Schleswig clock makers is Peter Green, (Liverpool 1706 - Aabenraa 1795), from Aabenraa or "Apenrade¿ as the signature appears on the clocks. The family goes back to the English clock maker, Peter Green, who in about 1740 immigrated with his wife and children from Liverpool to Aabenraa, became a citizen in 1744/45, and worked there until his death in 1795. He had two sons, William and Jonathan, also clock makers in Aabenraa, and finally had a grandson William Jacob, who continued in the family business until his death in 1847.
Later painted clock case. Clock case with missing element at the feet, hence standing not straight. Clock work with faults.
