This collection of more than 950 different Chinese Cash coins, c. 5th cent. BC - 19th cent. AD, was formed by the well-known Danish numismatist and veterenarian, Carl Strømberg (1911–1995). It was collected over a longer period but was mainly acquired in the 1970s from the reputable London-based dealers, Baldwin, Seaby and Spink. The coins (including some from Annam, Japan and Korea) are laid out on trays and have all been carefully identified on tickets with references mainly to Schöth and Cresell (some interchanged). To give just a brief idea of the scope of the collection the following examples can be mentioned: Chou Dynasty, before 255 BC, 5-character knife coin, Yen 964; Hsin Dynasty, Wang Mang Interregnum, (7–22 AD), gold inlaid key money of value 5000, Sch. 119; Bronze mould for eight Wu-Chu value one cash, 3rd - 7th cent AD, cf. Hartill p. XIX; Shu Bu Dang Jin, Yen 37, ex. Ward Smith; Southern Song Dynasty, 100 Cash, S 1023; Yuan Dynasty, 1280–1368, Shun Ti, value 100, Schjöth 1114; Xian Feng, 500 cash (1851–1861), C 1–10, 500 cash, C 2–9A - A truly splendid collection of early Chinese money, and a unique opportunity for scholars and collectors alike.

The coins are generally in a very good and original condition, and scarce types and rare variations abound. Although the coins all stem from an old and distinguished collection, we cannot possibly guarantee the authenticity of each and every individual coins, and a careful viewing is therefore highly recommended.
