An Italian Baroque kiss board, engraved silver plate with Christ and two angels mounted in gilded copper frame with inlaid silver enamel stripes. Gold drawing on blue ground. Arabesques and inscription “TU EXAUDES ME ECCE AGNUS DEI” = “You have heard me: Behold the Lamb of God ”. At bottom relic encapsulated in crystal. The back with engraved copper plate with inscription “F.A. ADEUS FIERI FEC.” = “F.A. Amadeus (presumably Duke of Savoyen) let it made” curved handle with blue dotted enamel beads. The rectangular base with corner-leaf ornaments. 16th century. H. 21 cm. W. 14 cm at the base.

A kiss board often of precious material contained a holy relic. It was brought forward during mass and kissed by the celebrating priests.

Condition

Wear due to age and use. Enamel with chip and slightly retouched with blue, where the enamel is chipped, flower on top bended, repair solding on upper cherub, base on the back with square part, where gilding is removed.
