Sigurd Schultz, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of C. A. Jensen no. 113 (Lauritz Holmblad).

It has been suggested, that Birgitte Holmblad was painted by Hans Hansen.

Lauritz Holmblad was a son of dyer Jacob Holmblad (1736–1806), who in 1777 received Royal privilege to open “a complet Manufactur - Farverie” (complete textile dye works) in Copenhagen. (See lot 90).

The company was passed down to his son Lauritz, who then founded Denmark's first real paint and varnish factory. Hereafter his son Carl Frederik inherited the factory.

In the early 20th century the factory was merged with Sadolin paint factory and the company became known as Sadolin and Holmblad. The company was leading in its field and Denmark was after World War 2 the second largest country in the world exporting paint.
