Portrait of dyer Jacob Holmblad (Trelleholm 1766- Copenhagen 1806) in a red coat and blue vest and his wife Maren Marie neé Rosensteen (1744-Copenhagen 1818) with high peeled hair, blue dress with red bows sitting with a bouquet of flowers in her hand. Unsigned. She inscribed on the reverse E. Pouelsen. He unsigned. Oil on canvas. 76×58 cm each. (2).
The Swedish dyer Jacob Holmblad (1736–1806), received in 1777 a Royal privilege to open “a complet Manufactur - Farverie” (complete textile dye works) in Copenhagen.
The son Lauritz Holmblad continued his father's business and founded Denmark's first real paint and varnish factory. (See lot 91).
