A pair of Sevres biscuit figures of Cupid and Psyche on cobalt-blue ground stands, bases decorated in gold with the inscriptions “Qui que tu sois, voici ton maître, Il l'est, le fut, ou le doit être” and “Non! pas plus que tu n'es mon maître, Tu ne le fus ni ne dois l'être”. After model by Etienne Maurice Falconet. Bases marked in red Dore A Sevres 88, green S.87 and S.88 respectively, biscuit impressed mark Sevres and incised HD 88–2-LV. France 1888. H. 31.5 cm. and 32 cm. (2)

Condition

Cupid with broken/repaired finger. Psyche with broken arrow and firing defect above left breast. A few minimal chips.
