Kaare Klint (b. Frederiksberg 1888, d. Copenhagen 1954)

“Skabe til musikinstrumenter” (Cabinets for musical instruments). A set of four Cuban mahogany cabinets. Each cabinet consists of base cabinet with four drawers and to doors, inside with shelves, and upper cabinet inside covered with patterned silk with mountings for instruments. Designed and made to order 1923–24 by cabinetmaker N. C. Jensen Kjær, Copenhagen. H. 235 cm. W. 94 cm. D. 36,5 cm. (4)

Provenance: Carl Johan Michaelsen, hence by descent in the family. A copy of a letter dated March 1923 from Kaare Klint to the wife of Carl Johan Michaelsen, Vera Michaelsen, is included. This letter provides insight into the design process as well as the diligence characterizing Kaare Klint's work with a special focus on the the design for and placement in the Michaelsen's living room.

The model was designed for Carl Johan Michaelsen's collection of musical instruments in 1923–24.
