Hans J. Wegner (b. Tønder 1914, d. Gentofte 2007)

“JH 604”. A white lacquered metal pendant, adjustable hanger of brushed steel. Inside partly gilded with gold leaf. Designed 1962. This example manufactured late 1960s for cabinetmaker Johannes Hansen. Diam. 50 cm.

Provenance: Hakon Stephensen, brother of Architect Magnus L. Stephensen. Hence by descent.

The lamp was given as a gift to Hakon Stephensen from Hans J. Wegner. Stephensen later complained to Wegner about the reflection of the light bulb on the white surface inside the lamp. Wegner then collected the lamp and later returned it with the gilded insides.

Model presented at The Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition at Designmuseum Danmark, 1963. Literature: Grete Jalk [ed.]: “40 Years of Danish Furniture Design”, vol. 4, p. 232–233.
