Augustus, 27 BC - 14 AD, “Sestertius”, Byzacium, Hadrumentum, P. Quinctilius Varus, proconsul, 8–7 BC, RPC I 775.5, 23.77 g, dark patina - extremely rare type

The reverse bears the portraits of the Caesars Caius (17 BC - 4 AD) and Lucius (17 BC - 2 AD). They were the sons of Agrippa and Julia and the grandsons of Augustus who adopted them and designated them as his successors. Although destined for greatness both however died young.
