A Queen Anne giltwood and 'verre eglomisé' mirror the arched top adorned with pierced foliage and ornaments, the frame surrounding with glass panel border decorated with imitated red tortoiseshell and glass backed with engraved gold leaf. England, early 18th century. H. 124 cm. W. 58 cm.

The mirror has the characteristic shape of a French mirror of the late Louis XIV and Régence periods - which were also produced in England by exiled Huguenot craftsmen from circa 1700. An early example of this model by the maker Thomas Pelletier with a related verre eglomisé border is at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Illustrated in H. Shiffer, The Mirror Book, 1983, p. 47, fig. 73 and 74.
