View towards the Greek Monastery of Santa Maria in Grottaferrata. Signed and dated E. 1814. Pen and wash on paper. Sheet size 13×20.5 cm.

Literature: Ida Haugsted: “Italiens smukkeste Egn”, Copenhagen 2003, mentioned p. 101 and reproduced p. 191. The drawing may be from Eckersberg's first excursion into the Alban Hills - a trip he made with the young architect G. F. Hetsch (1788–1864). Eckersberg mentions this trip in his diary 29 March 1814 as follows (in Danish): “Did a very pleasant walking tour in the wonderful countryside of Albano Laricia [Ariccia] Genzano Nemi Castelo and Marino. Returned 2 April” . Or it may be from his second trip to the Alban Hills that year mentioned in his diary 12, 13 and 15 October: “did a small Tour to Frascati, Grotta Ferata, Marino Castello, Albano, Laricia, Nemi, with the total cost of 3 scudi and 3 1/2 bai”.
