C. W. Eckersberg (b. Blåkrog near Aabenraa 1783, d. Copenhagen 1853)

Interior from the artist's residence at Charlottenborg. Unsigned. Verso inscribed in pencil “86”. Pencil and wash on laid paper. Sheet size 17.5×13.5 cm.

In April 1818 Eckersberg was appointed professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and shortly after he was given Abildgaard's old apartment at Charlottenborg. It was situated on the ground floor to the right of the gate with several rooms facing Kongens Nytorv. The artist's daughter has described this apartment in her records about her father in “Julie Eckersbergs Optegnelser om Hendes Fader C. W. Eckersberg”, Copenhagen 1917.
