Ellen Poulsen, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of Jens Juel no. 256 and 257, reproduced p. 169.

Provenance: Miss Marie Rosenørn, her auction Winkel & Magnussen 329, 1946 no. 200, reproduced p. 6 and 7.

Literature: Ellen Poulsen, “Jens Juel”, vol. I p. 92, in a note to no. 256 (in Danish): “In the chapel at Store Restrup, which was consecrated on 2 July 1783, a plaque, according to a 1784 printed notice by vicar at Restrup Søren Møller, was hung, and upon which one could see the Chamberlain and the blessed wife of the Chamberlain’s portraits in oval frames, strongly gilded and meticulously well-made, after originals depicting each of the pair separately, which in turn had been made by the famous artist Mr Juul in Copenhagen.” There is a good chance that this could be the couple we see here.
