A large sculptural wagon wheel made out of a single piece of molave wood. Philippine Islands, 18th/19th century. Modern iron stand. H. 105 cm. Diameter 97 cm.
The molave tree, which has its natural home in the Philippines, was for centuries highly popular because of its many outstanding qualities. Today, however, the species is protected by law.
