The Adoration of the Shepherds. Unsigned. Oil on panel. 58×34 cm. Portal-shaped in a rectangular frame.

The painting is likely to have been a part of a larger altarpiece or a pulpit, but could also be a devotional painting for private use.

On the reverse red lacquer seals with the former owner's arms, presumably a French, German or Danish count, alternatively an English viscount, due to the English label on the reverse of the painting which points in the direction of an English provenance.

Condition

Cracks in the panel. In need of a surface cleaning. Minimal worm holes. Peelings along the edges.
