A 19th-20th century R.W. Winfield & Co. rocking chair with blackpainted iron frame, assembled with ten brass bolts, red leather on armrests, seat and back.
R.W. Winfield & Co., Birmingham started the production of this type of rocking chairs in the 1840s. It is assumed to be the world's first mass-produced rocking chair. A similar chair is ill. in a German catalogue from L&C Arnold in 1919.
Popularly is called a H.C. Andersen rocking chair. It is until now not been possible to find a photo where HC Andersen is sitting in such a rocking chair.
