A Chinese gilt bronze figure of Buddha Shakyamuni, he is dressed in a richly pleated robe and seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus throne, right hand in the bhumisparsha mudra, the left in front of him. Inscription on base “Ming Xuande” and illegible inscription internally. Unsealed bottom. Kangxi 1662–1722. Weight 5920 gr. H. 27 cm.

Provenance: Acquired in 1939 in Shanghai by a captain sailing for the East Asiatic Company.
