International auction at Bredgade
|
The doors are open to this year’s first international auction at which we will be presenting a wide range of art, antiques, jewellery and modern design. Art from SkagenWhat better way to welcome the spring than with art from the famous artists’ colony in Skagen? Blue skies, clear water and women in light robes certainly feature in a great many of the auction’s paintings created by some of the biggest names in Danish art. This is especially true of the collection of the well known Skagen family Holst. World-class jewelsIt’s not every day you see world-class jewellery on the Danish market! You will now, however, when we offer a unique collection of extravagant diamond jewellery – all with unusually fine cuts, clarity and high carats. They come from the bankruptcy estate of Stein Bagger and IT Factory, and are being sold at the request of the Attorney General. Coin cabinet with provenanceAn early 18th century German coin cabinet in walnut which has belonged to Johann Heinrich Burckhardt (1676-1738). He was a court official and physician-in-ordinary in Wolfenbüttel, famous for his pioneering work in botany. Burckhardt was an avid collector of books, specimens, curiosities and coins, and he kept some of it in this cabinet. Robert Jacobsen 100 years2012 marks the centenary of one of the heavyweights of Danish art. The man in question is “Big Robert”, alias Robert Jacobsen (1912-93), and we will be celebrating an outstanding contribution to European art with 27 of his works. The pieces featured are wide-ranging – from lesser known paintings and his first attempts at sculpture in wood from the 1930s, to the perfectly executed iron sculptures from the 1950s and onwards. The Lommer-girlsWith the series of “Lommer Girls”, we move into the more intriguing corner. The man behind the drawings is Stig Lommer (1907-1976), who was known for his work as a theatre manager at ABC Teatret in Frederiksberg. In the 1950s, he introduced his “Lommer Girls”, who quickly became a concept in the Danish entertainment industry. Sit down!True to form, the auction also features world class Danish design. With an arm chair from 1953, you have the opportunity to become the owner of one of Hans J. Wegner’s (1914-2007) rarest pieces of furniture. The chair makes strong references to the famous “Peacock” chair, and only ten of them were made by the architect’s longstanding collaborator, cabinetmaker Johannes Hansen. The versatile Johan RohdeOne of the early names in modern Danish design is the versatile Johan Rohde (1856-1935). Not only was he a fierce art critic, but he also mastered with great superiority many forms of artistic expression – including painting, silverware design and not least furniture design. Included in the auction is his unique set of furniture from 1898.
