|
A copy of the first picture book to be published in Greenlandic is featured among the 150 titles to be auctioned at the book auction on Sunday 14 February.
When the online book auction rolls over the screens on Sunday, collectors and other literary buffs with an interest in Greenland will have the opportunity to purchase a copy of the charming little picture book “Aksillisæt innuin nunejnnit. Billeder fra Grönland” (‘Pictures from Greenland’) from 1852. The book is illustrated by doctor and Colonial Manager Christian Rudolph (1811-1892). The illustrations of this copy are coloured. Furthermore, other sought-after works on Greenland will also be available at auction, such as Graah’s “Undersøgelses-Reise til Östkysten af Grönland” (‘Exploration of the East Coast of Greenland’) from 1832. Early international photographsAnother of the auction’s highlights is an interesting collection of more than 180 original photographs and ferrotypes from the 1860s-1900s. When photography appeared in 1839, it became the main method of recording history and especially the nobility fell in love with photography, it became a way to substantiate oneself. The ferrotypes and a great deal of the photographs in this collection come from Russian and French noble families including the Shuvalov family, the Skariatine family, the Guébhard family and the Dennis family. The modern sectionThe more modern section features a noteworthy copy of the art periodical “Spur im Exil, No. 6. Drakabygget”, August 1961, signed by, among others, Asger Jorn, and the book “Arkitekten Arne Jacobsen”, (‘The Architect Arne Jacobsen’), which is signed by the world-famous Dane himself.
