Sell your old paintings at auction! Buyers are keener than ever, and we are achieving good hammer prices at traditional and online auctions alike. Strong demand for older paintingsOur recently concluded international auction no. 812 at the auction house on Bredgade saw strong demand for older paintings, with high hammer prices as a result. We have the buyers, but we need your quality paintings. Here are some of the sorts of things we are looking for. The Danish landscape has dedicated followers both in Denmark and abroad. A record price of DKK 760,000 was achieved for a large, beautiful forest scene by Peder Mønsted – always a good name at auction. Funen’s Johannes Larsen has been a frequent contributor with beautiful, colourful depictions of Danish flora and fauna. The bidding reached DKK 58,000 for a family of mallards in an alderwood marsh, in shades of green, yellow and lilac. Danish genre scenes also readily found new homes. Anna Ancher’s light and colour study of daughter Helga Ancher in a room bathed in sunshine fetched a hammer price of DKK 250,000. Another domestic scene by Golden Age painter Constantin Hansen, depicting the artist’s two daughters at play, went for DKK 60,000. Works by Skaw and Golden Age painters are clearly popular at the moment. Interest in Italian motifs is undiminished, and if the name Paul Fischer is part of the mix, the price shoots up. A scene from Rome depicting ordinary life around the Vesta temple in the golden afternoon sunlight fetched DKK 280,000; Fischer’s paintings of Copenhagen can fetch even more, and change hands readily. There was tremendous enthusiasm from abroad for our selection of paintings by old masters. So, if you have something dark and mysterious of an older vintage hanging on your wall, it’s worth taking a closer look – it may be perfect for selling at auction. Consignment of older paintingsBruun Rasmussen Art Auctioneers sells paintings in all price categories. Prices in our online auctions are DKK 3,000 and upwards. Visit our reception at Sundkrogsgade 30, Copenhagen to have your old masters valued and placed in either a traditional auction or an online auction. We sell when the highest price has been achieved. We are always open to consignments of paintings for our online auctions, which take place weekly.
