A rare Danish basket hilted sword given by king Frederick VI to corporal Christopher Theodor Neumann for gymnastic ability in 1834 with a lion-headed pommel, an ebony grip, a straight c. 85 cm. long blade marked PROVED in a circle on one side of the ricasso in a brass scabbard marked SKJÆNKET HS. MAJEST. KONGEN TIL CORPORAL CHRISTOPHER THEODOR NEUMANN AF SLESVIGSKE INFANT REGT FOR FLIID OG DUELIGHED I GYMNASTIKKEN, 1834. With the sword documents on the career of the original owner in the Danish army and afterwards in the postal service of Denmark and Prussia.
The blade is replaced and the scabbard somewhat dented.
